At 5 yrs old the Horse has a full compliment of cheek teeth... 6 above and 6 below. The roots are barely noticeable.
M1 - M3. Permanent Molar Teeth P2 - P4 . Permanent Premolar Teeth C. Canine Tooth i - 1 to i - 3 Permanent Incisor Teeth
At 10 yrs. old , eruption has been continuing to compensate for wear and the teeth now exhibit distinct roots and occupy less of the jaws , especially the cavity of the maxillary sinus. The roots of the teeth close up at approximately 12 years of age. 61. Nasal peak 62. Nasomaxillary Notch 63. Infraorbital Foramen 64. Orbit 65. Facial Crest 66. Mental Foramen 67. Diastema 68. Body of Mandible ( Lower jaw )
At 18 yrs. old , the teeth have very little crown left embedded in the jaws and the closed roots are long and prominent. Very little of the maxillary sinus is occupied by the cheek teeth , the upper level of the roots being somewhat below the facial crest.
