Belgium Warmblood Mare : Dignity

Dignity ( or Diggy as she is affectionately known ) came to Greenacres Stud in August 2008 as a 5 year old.

She was purchased from Mrs Marie Ryan and concluded a six month search for another  talented and extremely well bred young mare to run alongside our other 5 yr old mare Cool Compliments. Both these mares have the sufficient 'blood' mixed with their jumping lines to produce the athleticism and the suppleness required to 'perform the severe tight turns' required in modern day show jumping .

As can be seen from the brief pedigree excerpt below , she is a Belgium Warmblood sired by the well known stallion Varnese van de Holstenhoeve.

Her pedigree reads like a who's who of the top jumping and dressage lines and features that prolific jumping stallion Calypso III  ( by Cor De La Bruyere ) on both her sire and on her dam's side.

Further back in her pedigree one can find the prolific mare Hyazinthe Z , and the mighty stallions Ramiro Z and Landgraf I.

Of equal importance is the appearance of the Holsteiner  mare 'Tabelle' on each side of Diggy's pedigree. Tabelle produced the five Calypso brothers and she is a full sister to Samei , who was the dam of the great Granat ( a world champion dressage horse with Christine Stuckleberger ) .

To finish off this little who's who of Diggy's pedigree , final mention goes to the Thoroughbred  Stallion Rantzau who from 1971 to 1973 was the leading sire of dressage , show jumping and event horses in France. He is still regarded by many as the best thoroughbred stallion to have entered the French breeding programme.

If this horse's pedigree is generally representative of the 'breed' standard , then it is little wonder that Belgium Warmbloods have recently become more and more prominent and successful in equestrian sport.
