Thoroughbred Stallion Cardinal |
|
Cardinal stood at the private stud of Schmidt-Ankum from 1970 to 1976 to full books of mares from all over the breeding area. It has been commented that Cardinal had ‘high nobility, large frame, light poll, good development of neck and withers, ideal top-line, delicate foundation and sensational movement’. Also most importantly for a sire ‘he truly stamped his offspring. They were usually dark with fine face markings and several white feet. Furthermore they represented nobility to a high degree. There was something magical about them. Because of their pleasant personalities and their excellent ride-ability, they were rather popular.’
Cardinal’s most important son was
Cavalier, born in 1971 from the states premium mare, Fackel
(Ferdinand / Axel). Fackel continued her breeding career at Leon
Melchior’s Zangersheide Stud , where she was the dam of the licensed
stallion, Graf Fackel Z (by Graf Gotthard Z). In his first year of breeding Cardinal also produced the Westfalien stallion, Carrera. He in turn produced three stallion sons, Calypso, Carlo and Chagall. Cardinal died in 1976 at the age of just 13. |
